The Vanishing

“Where are we all headed?”
“Towards death, Maggie. We’re all headed towards death.”

Burke wants to know where Malloy is. He presses and presses Sam for answers. Nothing. Sam, dammit, just will not budge. This guy has hammered himself with the liquor the entire series and Maggie keeps trying to just get through to him. His peace of mind, something that has been under subjection thanks to the secret he holds with Roger, is what she wants.  What will crack him? There’s a scene towards the very end where Maggie wants to know how he ties in with Malloy, Roger, and Burke. He is adamant she just drop the questions. He gobbles the whiskey, lives day to day to day in misery, pining in anguish, yet will simply not release his soul from what ails him. Frankly, I’m tired of writing about him. This episode did little for  me, although I am glad Dark Shadows Creative hasn’t completely given up on the Maggie character, placing her in the Burke storyline as a means to needle into Sam; if he will not budge for her, then all hope is lost he will ever be free. And, heaven help us, the relationship that will not end, Joe and Carolyn meet at the diner, both raising up Malloy’s name. It went from Burke, to Sam, to Roger, now to Malloy, the person of creative interest is heavily mentioned constantly until something happens that centrally moves the plot to someone else. Anyway, Malloy is missing, his whereabouts are a mystery but his fate, I think, is not in doubt. He was the man who knew too much; he had to “disappear”. Joe and Carolyn discuss Burke briefly, the crystal ball, and marriage (ugh), finishing this off with a couple of long embraced kisses. It just won’t die fast enough for me. DSC seems to think this romance is worthy prolonging…I don’t see why. Roger is currently somewhere, no one knows—could it be he’s burying a body?

Early Exit

Burke interrupts what could have been a decent dinner between Maggie, her father, and Vicky, and he's sore, agenda-driven, and pointed in defending himself, while also demanding answers...answers Sam is willing to flee to protect. Sam's only link to Burke at all, besides Roger himself, is the letter he wrote to Maggie. He escapes out the back door while the others were in the living room and heads to Collins Port Inn where the letter is kept but the owner will not give it over to him. The letter is Maggie's and she will have to give permission before Sam can get his hands on it. Malloy's death looms large and will not go away--especially as long as Burke steamrolls throughout Collins Port, pissed off and unrestrained. He wants to know Sam's connection to the wrongful conviction and isn't about to just forget his presence at the meeting that night. Maggie just cannot believe that her father had anything at all to do with Malloy's death; Sam and Malloy were fr...

Keeping Quiet

Carolyn is all bent out of shape when she gets the phone call from Sheriff Patterson confirming the body found being Bill Malloy. Elizabeth wanted to tell her but Carolyn has a way of diverting a serious matter through evasion (in this case, not purposely). Carolyn gets all fatalistic and existential, how life is precious and could be taken away at any moment. A mourning period will now begin for Malloy, what he meant to those around him. At the Blue Whale, Sam is drinking heavily--no surprise--and Roger wants his assurance that the secret regarding Burke's manslaughter charge remain hidden. Both parties deny having anything to do with Malloy's demise but Sam is acting awfully strangely, especially when the topic of autopsy is brought up. Vickie plans to have dinner with Maggie and Sam, and is curious if Roger's reasons for her not meeting them might have something to do with her past. Vickie's past has been rather buried lately, with a few episodes finding a little roo...

A Dilemma

This isn't the name of Episode 62 but an actual problem I have. Currently two discs of Dark Shadows Collection 3 are not available on netflix to me so I will have to, seeing as I have not other way to avoid this, no alternative, skip certain episodes. I hate this as I want to stay in order and not have to miss huge gaps of story and character development. The only other choice I have is to buy the entire expensive set, and I just can't afford it. So, if you one or two people who have happened through my blog at some point, I want to apologize in advance.
